This week is Unions Week and I am supporting their campaign to ban zero-hours contracts. We need more good quality jobs in Rossendale and Darwen and not the hand-to-mouth existence of zero-hours and temporary contracts.
Under the Tories workers’ real wages are still lower than they were in 2010 and there are a record number of people in working households living in poverty.
Whilst the Tories give tax breaks to the super-rich, working people in Rossendale and Darwen are worse off. The truth is this Tory Government is out-of-touch and has no idea of the reality of people’s lives and no plan to improve them.
The next Labour government will scrap the public sector pay cap, introduce a Real Living Wage of £10 an hour by 2020, cap energy prices and protect workers by guaranteeing no tax rises for 95 per cent of earners.
